In-laws have a way of keeping life interesting, dont they?
One minute, theyre bringing over homemade cookies, and the next, theyre stomping all over your boundaries.
Whether its showing up uninvited or offering unsolicited advice, they sure know how to stir things up.
And while some are lovely and respectful, others?
Well, lets just say they seem to have missed the memo on personal boundaries.
And when that happens, things can get awkward fast.
And, most importantly, every dish was allergy-proof because of the OPs severe, hospital-trip-levelallergyto nuts and shellfish.
A true scientist of the worst kind.
But what did this lady do?
Respect her daughter-in-laws wishes?
Oh no, that would be way too simple.
Instead, she just showed up with the aunt in tow, completely ignoring the OPs very reasonable request.
He understood but wished she had handled it more tactfully.
But did the mother-in-law disrespect the OP by completely ignoring her wishes?
But Im pretty sure they are referring to wine and chocolate, not a surprise guest nobody invited.
Be firm but polite.
Instead of leaving room for interpretation or negotiation, say, That doesnt work for me.
