Sometimes theyre practically secondparents, other times theyre more like an exclusive club where the membership card is elusive.

Whether the OPs exclusion from the concert bash was intentional or not, we dont really know.
But, in situations like this, its helpful for the spouse to be the bridge.
If the OPs husband had just jumped in and said Hey, what about my wife?
it could have been a nudge for his mom to realize her oversight and fix it on the spot.
