Many people opt to take their partners last name afterwalking down the aisle.
In the eyes ofGen-Zers, the modern twist on this tradition involves updating theirInstagramusernamesto reflect their new identity.
But what happens when their desired name is already taken?
For Katherine Asplundh formerly Driscollthe answer was clear: fight for it.
She then messaged the accounts owner, who goes by Kate, with an unusual offer.
Just got married and this is my new name!
Kate replied: Congrats!
Thats my name too.
I just Googled, and it said selling my username would get me banned from Instagram.
I purchased my username in the past, actually, thats not true.
She added, So weird, I didnt know there was another Asplundhs family out there.
There [are] no Katherine Asplundh in our family.
Is there any way I can get you to change your username one more time?
Just got married, and this is my new name!
Kate then explained to Katherine that her account was her finsta, short for fake Instagram.
She also insisted that she didnt wish to get punished for violating the networks policy.
I dont want to get banned, sorry!
Thats when Katherines messages took a threatening tone.
The owner of the account, who goes by Kate, responded, Congrats!
Thats my name too.
Who would make their finsta their actual name?
I reported you to Instagram and theyre actually able to tell me your real name.
I really hope I dont know you because thats gonna be really embarrassing for you.
She tried to justify her claims by alleging that her husbands family are the only Asplundhs in the US.
Would love to see that.
If you were nice, I would have considered giving it to you for free.
But you werent, she texted.
I reported you for asking me to sell my account and [submitted] another report for harassing me.
Have a good day.
Why is she harassing people on Instagram instead of enjoying wedding bliss?
She doesnt believe someone else could have her name?
Thats so delusional, another person commented.
While some believed Katherine was entitled, others wouldve accepted the money
Thanks!
